Abstract

This paper analyzes the interaction of Across-the-Board-movement and apparent violations of the Coordinate Structure Constraint (CSC) in German. It is shown that these interactions pose a problem for existing accounts of the CSC. On behalf of the data, it is argued that the CSC is an upward extending condition—i.e., that matrix coordinations inherit the restrictions of embedded coordinations.
