This paper analyzes the interaction of Across-the-Board-movement and apparent violations of the Coordinate Structure Constraint (CSC) in German. It is shown that these interactions pose a problem for existing accounts of the CSC. On behalf of the data, it is argued that the CSC is an upward extending condition -- i.e., that matrix coordinations inherit the restrictions of embedded coordinations.
