This paper aimed at investigating the initial prosodic template in the acquisition of Brazilian Portuguese (BP) and the influence of the methodology on the results reported in the previous literature. The results did not show a trochaic bias, as claimed for other languages, nor a clear iambic analysis, which could be an alternative possibility. Moreover, the paper concludes that different grammatical categories (nouns and verbs) have to be taken into account in the investigation on the initial prosodic template as BP data demonstrated that they do not show the same biases.
