This introduction to the Selected Proceedings of the 9th Hispanic Linguistics Symposium describes the 9th Hispanic Linguistics Symposium and the 8th Conference on the Acquisition of Spanish and Portuguese as First and Second Languages, held jointly at the Pennsylvania State University in 2005. This proceedings includes papers from both of these joint conferences, which will be unified as the Hispanic Linguistics Symposium in future years. The preface includes acknowledgments for the conference and the proceedings.
