Este artículo ofrece una explicación unitaria al significado hipotético y al significado de irrelevancia añadida del subjuntivo en las construcciones con aunque en español. Para ello, se parte de una definición del subjuntivo como modo de la no aserción. A partir de aquí, la hipoteticidad se analiza como el resultado de una implicatura conversacional generalizada de tipo escalar y el valor de irrelevancia se relaciona con la estructura informativa del discurso. Además se plantea la alternancia entre indicativo y subjuntivo en las construcciones con aunque desde el punto de vista de la oposición información activada frente a información no activada. Esta oposición permite dar explicación a la alternancia modal en las presuposiciones pragmáticas y a la preferencia del subjuntivo en los contextos polémicos.
This paper presents a unified explanation for both the hypotheticality and the irrelevant factuality of subjunctive mood in Spanish aunque constructions. Firstly, it is assumed that the subjunctive is the mood of non-assertion. Once it is accepted, hypotheticality is analysed as a result of a generalyzed conversational implicature. On the other hand, the meaning of irrelevance is related to the informational discourse structure. Furthermore, the choice of indicative versus subjunctive in Spanish aunque constructions is joined to the opposition activated versus non-activated information. This perspective allows to predict mood alternation in the so-called pragmatic presuppositions and it also explains the preference for subjunctive in polemic contexts.
