German 'noch genau wissen': Uniform Semantics, Distinct Effects
Emil Eva Rosina and Kristina Liefke

Abstract

We give a uniform compositional semantics for the German memory predicate noch wissen ['still know'] that licenses both declarative dass- ['that'-] and free relative wie- ['how'-]complements, viz. by representing events as propositions. We show that this semantics yields the intuitive different interpretations of genau [roughly: 'exactly'] in genau wissen, dass (reliability) and genau wissen, wie (vividness) under a single lexical entry for genau (due to Wurm, 2020).
