Subject Movement in Atchan Relative Clauses: A Two-Probe, Mixed A/A'-account
Rebecca Jarvis

Abstract

Using a case study of relativization and subject dislocation in Atchan (Kwa, Côte d'Ivoire), this paper investigates the phenomenon of multiple probes on a single head that drive mixed A/A'-movement. This paper argues that the Atchan subject dislocation pattern is best captured by a pair of two probes on the relativizing C head, and presents an analysis similar to the multiple-probe analysis of Bossi & Diercks (2019) for Kipsigis. The Atchan pattern offers an example of two probes on a C head, with an A-first probe ordering and crossing dependencies; it thus expands our understanding of the possibilities in multiple-probe configurations.
