Alemannic Verb Doubling Is the Overt Realization of a Head Movement Chain
David Diem
129-136 (complete paper or proceedings contents)

Abstract

I argue for a new analysis of verb doubling constructions in Alemannic German, a variety spoken in and around Switzerland. It is based on the spell-out of more than one copy/trace of a Verb head movement chain. The analysis accounts also for data that have previously been seen as problematic for such a spell-out analysis.
