Atypical Ellipsis Patterns in Imperative Fragments
Michael Donovan
127-134 (complete paper or proceedings contents)

Goal-Oriented Location Commands (GOLCs) are fragment commands that lack verbs, such as "Feet on the floor!" Despite lacking verbs, I will argue that GOLCs do not merely involve eliding the verb, but in fact involve deletion of all material on the edge of the theme and goal. Thus, GOLCs are truncated from a full imperative clause by a process of edge ellipsis, of the kind previously argued for phenomena like coordination, by a feature associated with commanding.
