This paper observes that not just DPs but also predicates like 'is Catholic' can receive de re readings (de re predicates). After pointing out that de re predicates are distinct from what previous authors claim are impossible readings of predicates (so-called Generalization X), it is proposed that de re predicates should be understood in terms of the de dicto readings of some "contextually equivalent" predicates. This analysis of de re predicates is further generalized to all cases of de re readings, including the classical data of de re DPs.
