The Rightward Movement Analysis of Gapping in NP and Its Structural Implications
Masaya Yoshida
388-396 (complete paper or proceedings contents)

Abstract

This paper investigates gapping constructions in NP (Nominal Gapping). Through a detailed comparison with well-known gapping in the verbal domain (Verbal Gapping), the author argues that both of the constructions are best analyzed as ellipsis followed by the rightward movement of complement phrases. The author further shows that the study of Nominal Gapping provides a window into the internal structure of NP and AP.
