Implicature Unsuspendable: Japanese Contrastive wa Yurie Hara 35-45 (complete pdf) It has been observed that Japanese Contrastive-marking induces scalar implicatures. This paper shows that the induced implicatures are conventional implicatures. In addition, an island-sensitive movement of an implicature operator is introduced to account for the (un)availability of global implicatures within different types of clauses.
