The paper shows that the full paradigm of nominal ellipsis in Spanish can be accounted for given certain independently needed assumptions regarding the structure of DPs, the nature of Ellipsis processes, and the 'clitic-like' character of the definite article in Spanish. Taking into consideration one of the basic properties of Spanish DPs (i.e., that argumental PPs can appear in any order to the right of the N) and the severely restricted possibilities of movement within Romance DPs, I argue that nominal ellipsis must be treated as a PF operation that can apply after all syntactic and stylistic operations have taken place.
