Rioplatense Spanish Clitic Doubling and "Tripling" in Lexical-Functional Grammar
Bruno Estigarribia
297-309 (complete paper or proceedings contents)

Abstract

This work models Rioplatense Spanish direct object clitic doubling and "tripling" (two direct object NPs coreferent with a clitic) in Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG) The paper provides examples of clitic tripling never before discussed in the literature. The attendant analysis shows how LFG's separation of constituent structure, grammatical function, and information structure straightforwardly accounts for cases where a single grammatical function is concurrently instantiated in different positions in the sentence, and even receives multiple information structure functions.
