Split Questions, Extended Projections, and Dialect Variation
Jorge López-Cortina
219-230 (complete paper or proceedings contents)

Abstract

This paper presents a new analysis of split questions on the basis of new data from different Peninsular and Latin American dialects of Spanish. These dialects show restrictions in the wh-movement of the first part of the construction that are different from the restrictions found in regular (i.e., non-split) wh-questions. An initial classification of these dialects is presented in light of the possibilities allowed by the proposed analysis.
