Object Marking in wh-questions in Bantu
Kristina Riedel
67-76 (complete pdf)
Bookmark and Share

The author discusses object marking patterns in wh-contexts in Sambaa (Shambala), Swahili and Haya. Differences between questions and non-questions, and between different types of wh-environments, such as relative clauses, cleft questions and simple wh-questions, are discussed. It is argued that the differences observed cannot be linked to an agreement/pronoun distinction for object marking across those languages, contra Bresnan and Mchombo (1987).
